Based on the initiative of Transparency International Czech Republic (TI CZ), the European Commission begins to look into the conflict of interests of the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. At a meeting of the European Parliament’s Budget Committee on 27 September 2018, MEPs questioned on TI CZ’s complaint and the status of scrutiny of the case.

Günther Oettinger, Commissioner for the EU Budget (and responsible for EU funds prevention) replied: „I have instructed DG Regio and DG Agriculture to collect all background material from the Czech Republic and elsewhere in order to answer that question. We work on all fronts. Our system works in slow, but consistent manner.“

„We appreciate the active approach to tackling the issue of controlling companies by politicians. Respected institutions should be looking deeply into obeying the rules of the game, which is what it´s all about,“ comments TI CZ analyst Milan Eibl.
