The former President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt was banned from holding any senior post in the human rights body for the next 10 years. The ban came after a major corruption inquiry into vote-rigging in favor of Azerbaijan government. Other deputies were banned as well from taking senior positions for two years, namely Jordi Xuclà, Cezar Florin Preda a Samad Seyidov.

Transparency International Czech Republic welcomes the effort of PACE, which thanks to these bans sent very clear signal that there will be zero tolerance of using the money, gifts and others in order to create a good reputation of the country aka reputation laundering.

We believe that this effort to eliminate corruption, not only in the Council of Europe is just the beginning. „For other European states this example should serve as a proverbial broom to sweep up similar domestical issues. It is important to realize the risks connected with vote rigging and acquisitive creating of the positive picture about the country,“ claimed David Ondráčka, member of the Board of Transparency International and a director of Transparency International Czech Republic.
